BEL AIR, Md. - Despite spotting No. 5 Catonsville with a 2-0 lead 15 minutes into the Region XX Opening Round, the No. 4 Harford Fighting Owls scored three unanswered goals and advanced to the Region XX Semifinals with a 3-2 victory on Saturday. The victory improved Harford's October record to 7-1.
In the games 76th minute,
Aaron Krauss received the ball off a corner kick and tried to center it into the box. Catonsville's Ibrahim Magadji inadvertantly headed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal, giving Harford a 3-2 win.
Sophomore goalie
George Tsakiris made nine saves to earn his ninth win of the season. He made two spectacular saves, and received a lot of help from his defensive front. After making a brilliant save on a shot by Catonsville's Robert Booksa in the game's 70th minute, freshman defender
Kevin Connelly made a team save, blocking the rebound shot off the foot of Denair Mitchell to keep the score knotted at 2-2.
The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead off goals by Elmer Diaz and Michael Beck. Diaz opened the scoring with a nifty touch in the games 10th minute. less than five minutes later, Beck pounded home a rebound for a 2-0 advantage.
Harford responded immediately, however, when
Jacob Duarte gathered a rebound opff a free kick by
Brenton Violante.
Ryan Corn netted the equalizer in the 31st minute off a beautiful give-and-go with
Brendon Cole.
The No. 4 Fighting Owls advance to face No. 1 Southern Maryland on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Harford defeated the hawks last week 2-1 when Duarte scored a breakaway in the game's 89th minute.
