BEL AIR, Md.—The Harford baseball team kept up its torrid pace as of late, tallying 21 runs in a 21-6, truncated, seven-inning blowout of Prince George's on Tuesday at Harford Baseball Field. Sophomore Joe Harbach (Abingdon, Md./Edgewood) had a huge day for the Fighting Owls (14-5, 3-3 MDJUCO), going 4-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, a walk, a home run and seven RBI, while also striking out the side in one inning of relief, which saw him give up just one hit.
Russell Donaldson shined for the Prince George's Owls (0-9, 0-7 MDJUCO), also going 4-for-4 on the day with a triple, a double, one run, one RBI and two stolen bases.
Freshman Corey Taylor (Fallston, Md./Fallston) (2-2) picked up the win on the mound after giving up just one run on three hits and fanning six batters in three innings of work, while Terrence Cook was tabbed with the loss after allowing 21 runs (13 earned) on 21 hits and striking out one in five innings.
Though short-lived, Prince George's took a lead in the first off a wild pitch from Taylor only to have Harford knot the score in the bottom of the inning off sophomore Mike Maxwell's (Salem, N.J./Woodstown) RBI double.
After retiring the Prince George's lineup in order in the second, the first two Harford batters in the bottom of the inning popped out and reached on an error, respectively. From the looks of it, it looked like Harford was off to a slow start, but the Fighting Owls exploded with seven hits before the inning was over, including three doubles and a home run (in succession) and took an 8-1 lead.
Two more batters would tally home runs and Harford would see four more doubles, two from Harbach, over the course of the next three innings on the way to the 21-6, seven-inning win.
The Fighting Owls return to action on Thursday when they travel to CCBC-Dundalk for a 3:00 p.m. game.
