2010 Region XX All-Region Teams
BEL AIR, Md.—Harford softball freshman Mariah Ripken (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace/Kutztown) and sophomore Sarah Cooley (Clermont, Fla./Bel Air) have been named to the MDJUCO All-Conference Second-Team and Region XX All-Region Second-Team, the conference and region offices announced recently.
Ripken finished the season with the highest batting average (.417) among Fighting Owls players that appeared in at least 75% of Harford's total games. The freshman was only one of two Harford players to play and start all 26 games, also leading the team with 35 hits, 11 doubles, five triples and 25 RBI and ranking second with four home runs. On the mound, Ripken was second on the team with a 3.96 ERA over 53 innings, which saw her strike out 40 batters. She was also the only pitcher with a winning record on the team, posting a 4-3 mark in nine appearances and seven starts.
Cooley finished second among player that played in at least 75% of games with a .410 average on 34 hits, six doubles and 21 RBI, with her hits and RBI totals also ranking second on the team, while her doubles total was tied for second. She saw the most work on the mound with 68.1 innings pitched and generated a 4.20 ERA, while striking out a team-leading 60 batters in 12 appearances and 11 starts.
Ripken, Cooley and the Fighting Owls wrapped up the 2010 season at the end of April when the Owls were blanked by eventual Region XX champion Cecil, 8-0, in the Region XX Opening Round.
