Rolle's Buzzer-Beater Bests Chesapeake, 54-53

BEL AIR, Md. - Sophomore Aniya Rolle picked the perfect time to catch fire for her sophomore classmates on Sophomoe Night. The 5-foot-4 guard buried a 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining to give Harford a 54-53 victory over Chesapeake on Monday.

Rolle and four other sophomores were honored before their final home game. Rolle finished with a game-high 19 points, while Tiff Smith added nine points and 11 rebounds. The Hall sisters, Kaityn and Jaclyn, chipped in with six and four points apiece, while Kelly Smith added a steal and an assist in the win.

The Fighting Owls took the lead on a lay-up by Tiffany Taylor, 32-31 at the 16:38 mark in the second half. Those two-points were the first of the game for Taylor, who ended the game with 12 points. Harford held the lead until the final minute when Chesapeake took a 53-51 on a pair of free throws.

That set up the final play. After a timeout with 16 seconds left, head coach Ashley Sammons drew up a play for Rolle, who calmly buried the long-distance shot for the win.

The contest was the final game of the Susquehanna Center. The Athletic Department is remodeling the building and it will re-open with a new arena for the 2012-13 season.
