Men's Soccer Falls In Region XX Final, 3-2


ARNOLD, Md. - The No. 15 Harford men's soccer team (14-4-1) fell in the 2011 Region XX Championship Game, losing to Southern Maryland, 3-2. The Hawks scored the game winner in the 89th minute, ending the most successful season in program history.

The top-seeded Fighting Owls were tied at 1-1 at the half and took a 2-1 lead on a goal from leading scorer Chris Panian assisted by Glenn Grove. Southern Maryland tied it up before the last-minute heroics sent the Hawks to the District Championship.

Brendon Cole scored the other goal for Harford, off an assist from Panian. Freshman goalkeeper Justin Brooks made 10 saves.

Gabe Kuhn, Chris Panian and Brian Connelly earned All-Tournament Team honors for the weekend.

The Fighting Owls finsihed the record-breaking 2011 season with the program's first conference championship, a school record 14 wins and the first national ranking for men's soccer in school history.
