ABERDEEN, Md. - Harford women's basketball's
Shelby Key recorded a triple-double in Monday's 83-23 victory over Delaware County. The freshman point guard netted 10 points with 12 assists and career-high 13 rebounds in the home win.
Key added a personal-best eight steals as the Fighting Owls led from start to finish. She had as many as 10 other assists erased on missed lay-ups, including eight in the first half. Key actually passede up an open lay-up with 12 rebounds and 12 assists for an attempt at another assist. She later buried a 10-foot jumper to record the special feat.
It marked the third triple-double in program history. Last season,
Tiffany Taylor scored 31 points with 18 rebounds and 10 steals in a win over conference foe Anne Arundel. In 2008,
Sarah Spalt scored 28 points to go along with 12 rebounds and 11 assists while adding seven steals in a win over Philadelphia.
Ten different Fighting Owls scored in the win, including a trio of student-athletes who scored a dozen points. Forwards
Kourtney Orr and
Kam Owens along with guard
Bree Lewis netted 12 points. Key and
Alannah Galloway both added 10. Lewis pulled down 11 rebounds to record the double-double.
The Harford defense held Delaware County to 12.7 percent shooting from the floor. The Phantoms score 13 points in the first half and 10 after intermission.
The Fighting Owls host Frederick on Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team at 6:15 p.m.
