BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford baseball team's nine-game win streak came to an end with an 8-5 loss to Catonsville on Saturday. It was the Fighting Owls (12-5) first loss at home this season (8-1).
The Fighting Owls took at 5-3 lead on
Nick Octavi's fielder's choice in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and no one out, Octavi sent a slow ground ball to short. The rookie catcher beat out the relay throw of the potential double play, but
Anthony Ortiz and
Kyle Lindsey both scored on the play.
The Cardinals rebounded and scored the final five runs in the victory, three in the top of the seventh on a leadoff solo home run and a two-out, two run double.
Octavi scored twice and knocked in two runs in the loss. He also threw out a pair of base runners and collected a pick off at second base.
The Fighting Owls managed just six hits in the nine-inning loss. Lindsey was the lone player with two hits.
Taylor Nelson took his first loss of the season, allowing six runs, four earned on 12 hits in 6.1 innings of work.
The Fighting Owls face Massachusetts Bay on Sunday. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 11 a.m.
