BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford baseball team improved to an impressive 31-8 record with a Wednesday doubleheader sweep over Delaware County. The Fighting Owls were victorious 13-3 and 7-2.
Thomas O'Neill and
Mike Solomon collected the wins on the mound. O'Neill and the Fighting Owls fell behind 3-1 in the second inning of game one. That's when the righthander went to work, retiring the final 13 batters of the contest.
The offense plated the final 12 runs, including a nine-run fifth inning, to secure the victory in the opener. Eight different players collected a hit in the win, and
Anthony Ortiz,
James Wilson and
Matt Gray each totaled two hits and three RBIs.
O'Neill tossed 6.0 innings for the win, scattering five hits while striking out four and walking two. He ran into trouble in the second inning, allowing all three runs.
In the nightcap, Solomon scattered four hits in 6.0 innings allowing two runs, one earned while striking out two. The Fighting Owls were limited to just four hits, but had six walks and two batters hit to scrape together seven runs.
Matt Childress had three RBIs and
Chase Gardner added a pair.
The Fighting Owls host Cecil on Thursday at Ripken Stadium with a 6:30 p.m. start.
