Baseball Reaches 32 Wins At Ripken Stadium

ABERDEEN, Md. - The Harford baseball team picked up its 32nd win in a 4-1 victory over Cecil in a game played in front of 652 fans at Ripken Stadium on Thursday night.

The Fighting Owls scored four early runs and rode solid pitching from six different pitches to move within one win of the school record for victories, which was set last year.

Christian Wolfe went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the win. His monster double over the centerfielder's head in the first inning plated James Wilson as the eventual winning run.

Alex Riley and Wilson scored to give Harford a 2-0 lead in the first, and Anthony Ortiz and Jonathon Castro crossed home plate for a 4-0 lead, which was more than enough for the Fighting Owl pitching staff.

Dom Vattuone (3-2) started and tossed three innings of two-hit baseball, striking out a game-high four batters, including striking out the side in the second. Taylor Nelson pitched the next two innings, allowing Cecil's lone run while allowing just one hit.

Ted Fletcher pitched the sixth and seventh innings and struck out the side in order in the sixth. Jamie Pashuck and Jason Seitler combined to pitch the eighth inning before Corey Taylor earned his first save of the season with an eventful ninth. Taylor gave up two singles and a walk to load the bases with one out before striking out the final two batters to conserve the win.

The Fighting Owls travel to Hagerstown for a doubleheader that will help in the seeding process of next month's Region XX Division I Tournament on Saturday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon.
