Baseball Streak Hits 12 With DH Sweep

BEL AIR, Md. - And the beat rolls on for the Harford baseball team. The Fighting Owls ran its win streak to 12 games with a doubleheader nightcap sweep of Southern Maryland on Wednesday, improving its school record win total to 36, with 5-3 and 10-0 victories.

The Fighting Owls scored in the first inning of both contests, a feat that Harford has accomplished in five-straight games and nine of their last 11.

Seven different Fighting Owls collected a hit and five different players scored to back a solid pitching performance by freshman Jamie Pashuck (4-0).

Pashuck went six innings and scattered five hits while allowing a pair of earned runs. He walked two but struck out seven batters. Vinnie Cautillo allowed an unearned run to cross the plate, but earned his first career save.

Leading 5-3 with two outs and a runner at third, James Wilson made the play of the night to end the threat. The rookie shortstop charged a weakly hit grounder, bare-handed the ball and fired a laser that first baseman Christian Wolfe scooped for the game's final out, beating the runner by a fraction of a second.

Wolfe was also key at the plate, slugging a two-out RBI-double in the first, one his two hits of the victory. Kyle Lindsey also went 2-for-3 with a double.

Sophomore Ted Fletcher was dealing in the nightcap of the doubleheader sweep. The righthander allowed just three hits in five innings for his first career complete game shutout. He walked three and struck out three in his first career win.

Ronnie Zeberlein led four players with two hits. The second baseman had an RBI-double in the second and an RBI-triple in the six-run fifth.

Wolfe led off the sixth with a solo home run, his sixth of the season. The longball was the 16th of his career, a school record. Wilson and Anthony Ortiz also had a pair of hits in the win.

The Fighting Owls host Essex on Thursday at Ripken Stadium with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
