BEL AIR, Md. - Sophomore lefthander
Corey Taylor was nearly unhittable in Harford's 6-2 conference victory over Anne Arundel on Thursday evening. Taylor struck out a career-best 13 batters as his nasty repertoire of four different pitches kept the Pioneers guessing all night long.
Taylor, who held Anne Arundel to just one run on four hits in a tough-luck 1-0 loss last month, again held the Pioneers to four hits, this time in eight innings of work. Just one of the two runs scored in the top of the fifth inning was earned, and he walk just one batter during his gem.
The Fighting Owl offense posted a three spot in the third inning, which turned out to be all the support Taylor would need.
Simon Beloff had an RBI-double in the frame, and
James Wilson, who scored twice in the win, finished the game with a team-best three hits, including a double.
After allowing the pair in the top of the fifth, Harford played add-on, with a run in the bottom half of the fifth, and a two-spot in the seventh.
Jason Seitler pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory, needing just seven pitches.
The Fighting Owls (25-8, 10-4 MDJUCO) travel to face Frederick on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
