Women's Hoops Storms To Opening Victory, 100-82

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Harford women's basketball team won its season opener by posting triple digits for the first time in a season and a half in a 100-82 victory at Harcum. Freshman Capree Garner started her career with a bang by scoring a game-high 33 points.

The Fighting Owls put it on the Bears after falling in an early 20-7 hole. Harford stormed back by shooting 49.3 percent (37-for-75) from the floor and 47.1 percent (8-for-17) from behind the arc. The Fighting Owls also out-rebounded the Bears 36-23 while forcing 20 turnovers.

Garner shot an amazing 13-for-19 from the floor with four rebounds and three steals. Tiffany Taylor added 20 points in her first game since the 2010-11 season, while also pulling in a team-best eight boards and connecting on a team-high four 3-pointers.

Shelby Key totaled 15 points, six assists and five steals in the win. Na'kya Keitt also nailed four 3-pointers while scoring 14 points in her collegiate debut.

The Fighting Owls last scored 100 points in a Feb. 9, 2011 win over Valey Forge, 103-14. Harford game at Burlington has been postponed due to Hurricane Sandy. A make-up date has yet to be determined. The Fighting Owls take on Penn State-York on Nov. 7 on the road. Their home opener is Nov. 15 in the brand new APG Federal Credit Union Arena.
