CARNEY'S POINT, N.J. - The Harford baseball team's win streak reached 10 games with a 14-3 victory over Salem on Wednesday. The Fighting Owls (13-4) received another quality starting pitching performance while also collecting double-digit hits for the ninth time in 10 games.
Freshman
Taylor Nace wasted no time wondering if he would become the next Johnny Vander Meer, pitching back-to-back no-hitters. The freshman righthander allowed three-straight singles to open the game before settling down to face the minimum after that. Nace went six innings, allowing six hits and one earned run in the first.
He allowed a single in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but then had the Fighting Owl defense turn a double play to erase the base runner. In earning his second win, Nace (2-0) struck out five without walking a batter.
On the offensive end, Harford scored 14 runs on 15 hits.
Dennis Mitchell went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, while
Nick Octavi and
Jerry Jerminski each went 2-for-3 in the win. Octavi had a double and an RBI while Jerminski scored three times. Freshman
Jack Davis collected his first two collegiate RBIs for the Fighting Owls.
The Fighting Owls travel to CCBC-Essex on Thursday for a conference tilt beginning at 3:30 p.m.
