Baseball's 14-Game Streak Snapped At Cecil, 5-3

NORTH EAST, Md. - The Cecil baseball team halted Harford baseball's 14-game win streak on Thursday with a 5-3 win in an MD JUCO contest played at Cecil. The Fighting Owls gave up just five hits in the loss, but one of them was a three-run homer in the seventh inning, which turned a 3-2 lead into a 5-3 hole.

Sophomore Brandon Franke (1-1) went 6.1 innings, settling down after a rough first inning. The lefthander allowed two runs on one hit and four walks in the opening frame where he threw 42 pitches. Franke settled down until the sevnth inning, when a walk and a hit-by-pitch preceded the game-winning hit, a three-run shot by Joel Buchko.

Harford scored once in the first, tied it a 2-2 in the fifth and took a 3-2 lead in the sixth. Jon McAllister and Justin Malehorn both collected two hits in the loss. Overall, the Fighting Owls collected nine hits, marking the first time in 12 contests they were held below 10 hits.

The Fighting Owls welcome Division I opponent ASA on Friday for a single nine-inning contest under the lights at Harford Sports Complex, beginning at 6 p.m.
