Men's Soccer Shuts Out Southern Maryland, 3-0

Box Score
BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's soccer team (6-3-0, 6-1-0 MD JUCO) avenged last year's season-ending loss in the Region XX Final to Southern Maryland with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday. Freshman goalkeeper Windell Reid earned his first win with a clean sheet.

Sophomore Chris Cheelsman continued his hot streak with a pair of first half goals. He took over the team lead in goals with eight, moving into second place in the conference. The forward has scored eight goals and two assists in his last five games, including five goals in his last two contest.

Cheelsman's first goal was a powerful shot after a long pass from Tim Franczkowski from just outside the top of the box. His second squeaked past a diving keeper after a wonderful touch pass from Matthew Maderia.

Just 12 seconds before the half ended, Raul Xavier found the back of the net for the second straight game. Cheelsman collected the helper.

The other star of the night was Reid, who made six saves in his first career win. The Hawks actually outshot the Fighting Owls 19-13, with seven on goal. Harford collected another team save on the lone one that Reid couldn't get to.

The Fighting Owls are now 20-1-1 in their last 22 conference games. CSM scored in the final minute of the Region XX Final last year to end the most successful season in Harford history.
