Women's Hoops Streak Snapped At 10

Box Score
BEL AIR, Md. - The No. 25 Harford Fighting Owls (18-2) saw its season-best 10-game win streak snapped with its first loss in the APGFCU Arena on Thursday, a 72-64 loss to ASA (16-3). The Fighting Owls were held to 31.6 percent shooting, their second-worst of the season.

The Avengers outrebounded Harford 53-38 and forced 19 turnovers. ASA used an 11-0 run in the first half to take a 30-21 lead and settled for a 34-25 halftime advantage. After extending their lead to 16 points, its biggest of the night, 47-31 at 13:44 in the second half, ASA's advantage began to disappear thanks to the stingy Harford defense.

Harford went on a 24-3 run midway in the second half to take a 55-50 lead. The Fighting Owls went 8-for-9 from the floor, 2-for-2 from behind the arc and 6-for-6 from the free throw line in that six minute span. The defense caused five steals and seven turnovers, while holding ASA to 1-for-5 shooting.

The Avengers would regain composure and take the lead for good at the 3:40 mark and ice it at the free throw line late.

Rachel Cocoros and Shelby Key both tallied eight points in that spurt. Cocoros connected on a pair of triples and a fast break lay-up, while Key got her work in at the free throw line while also handing out three assists with three steals. Garner had six points and three assists in that amazing run, too.

Overall, Garner led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds. She shot only 7-of-21 from the floor while committing 11 turnovers in the loss. Tiffany Taylor recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Cocoros finished with 12 points while Key chipped in with eight markers and four steals.

The Fighting Owls travel to Frederick on Saturday before returning home for three straight.
