BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford softball team (3-6, 1-3 MD JUCO) battled conference foe Frederick (2-0, 2-0 MD JUCO) at home on Wednesday, but dropped both contests. The Fighting Owls forced extras but fell 8-5 in the opener and dropped game two, 9-3.
Frederick 8, Harford 5
Becca Steele capped off her 3-for-3 day with a game-tying RBI-single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to tie game at 4-4 and force extra innings.
The Fighting Owls would allow four runs in the eighth and lose 8-5. Freshman
Brittany Stein struck out a career-high 13 batters in the loss.
Steele led the offensive attack with three hits, while five others had two hits.
Abby Young continued her torrid start with a pair of hits, including a double and
Taylor Stiles added a pair of doubles. Young is hitting .469 on the season and Stiles is second on the team with a .433 average.
Frederick 9, Harford 3
Hannah Ayestas went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the 9-3 loss. She singled home Stiles with two outs in the third inning, giving Harford a 3-2 lead.
Young went 1-for-3 with an RBI-single in the third. Stein took the los sin game two, as well. Harford travels to Allegany on Saturday.
