Hot Offense Continues In Conference Sweep

BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford baseball team won its ninth-straight game with another offensive explosion on Friday. The Fighting Owls scored 31 runs in the doubleheader sweep of conference foe Southern Maryland, 16-0 and 15-2.

Harford (14-3, 6-0 MD JUCO) has totaled 67 runs in the past four games, all MD JUCO contests. Freshman Shane Garrett totaled five hits in the sweep, and sophomore Norm Donkin went 3-for-3 in the nightcap, while totaling five runs on the afternoon.

Mike Torres (3-0) and Kyle Hurley (3-1) were the beneficiaries of the tremendous run support. Both pitchers held the Hawks off the scoreboard. Torres scattered two hits with four strikeouts in four innings, while Hurley also allowed two hits while striking out four in four innings of work.

Garrett went 3-for-4 in the opener, scoring four times while collecting a double and his first home run of the season. It marked the ninth time this season that Garrett has totaled three hits in one game.

Matt Petrizzi had four RBI in the first game of the day while Rob Koski tallied three RBIs while scoring four times. Donkin had three hits in the second contest, including an RBI-double in the third. Jose Martinez also had multiple hits in the win.

Harford hosts Finger Lakes for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
