Petrizzi's Second No-Hitter Salvages Split

BEL AIR, Md. - Sophomore hurler Matt Petrizzi threw his second career no-hitter in game two of a doubleheader split with Northampton on Saturday. The no-no is the fifth in the last three seasons for Harford.

Harford 10, Northampton 0
Last season, Petrizzi's first start of the season was a 10-0 no-hitter against Jamestown. This year's first start was a 10-0 no-no over Northampton. The righthander struck out eight batters while walking two. He faced the minimum in five of the six innings.

The offense exploded for 17 hits and 10 runs in game two, as all but one batter collected a hit. Shane Garrett and Nick Freeberger both went 3-for-4, while Garrett added three RBIs. Norm Donkin and Jerry Jerminski both recorded two hits and two RBIs.

Petrizzi beame the second Fighting Owl in the last three years to record two no-hitters. Jamie Pashuck achieved the feat in 2011 as a freshman. In 2012, Petrizzi and Taylor Nace had no-hitters.

Northampton 9, Harford 8
In the opener, Harford pitchers walked 11 Spartans and fell behind 3-0 after a strange half inning. Nick Stallings struck out four batters in the top of the first, but Northampton scored three times with just one hit, a bloop single.

The Fighitng Owls slowly climbed back in it, thanks to nine free passes issued by Northampton pitchers, and key hitting in the latter innings. Jon McAllister went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and Garrett went 3-for-3, scoring twice.

The Fighting Owls host Niagara County on Tuesday.
