Stallings Retuns With Near No-No

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford baseball team's 13-game win streak was snapped in a doubleheader split with Lehigh Carbon (3-3) on Saturday. The Fighting Owls (19-4) dropped the opener, 9-8, in extra innings before sophomore Nick Stallings dominated the nightcap in a 9-0 win.

Stalling returned after missing 21 days with an arm injury, and took a no-hitter into the final inning of game two. He struck out six and walked just one in the victory to improve to 1-1 on the year. The leftie retired 18 in a row after the second batter reached on a fielding error. He allowed just one bloop hit with one out in the seventh.

Shane Garrett extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a two-hit game in the opener and a perfect 4-for-4 outing in the second game with his second career home run. Garrett has collected a hit in every game he has played in this year and he currently leads the nation with .580 batting average.

Harford fell behind 4-0 in the opener after just a half inning. The potent Fighting Owl offense scored twice in the bottom of the first and added six runs in the third to take an 8-4 lead. After another four-run frame for the Cougars in the fourth, Lehigh Carbon scored the game-winning run in the eighth on a passed ball.

Three of Harford's four losses this season have been one-run games. The first-place Fighting Owls travel to second-place CCBC Catonsville on Sunday at noon.
