GERMANTOWN, Md. - The Harford baseball team (23-6, 10-1 MD JUCO) collected a doubleheadr sweep at Montgomery (13-5, 3-3 MD JUCO) on Saturday. The Fighting Owls played well in all aspects of the game in winning 9-5 and 6-1.
Jerry Jerminski went 4-for-4 in the opener and
Nick Freeberger added three RBIs in the nightcap that included his first home run of the season.
Nick Stallings was stellar on the bump in his second outing after returning from an injury to earn the victory in game two and freshman standout
Shane Garrett extended his school-record hitting streak to 28 games.
Harford 9, Montgomery 5
All nine Fighting Owls collected a hit in the back-and-forth opening affair. Jerminski's four hits were coupled by
Matt Petrizzi's three-hit effort in the win.
After falling behind 5-2 after three innings, the potent Harford offense scored seven unanswered runs to secure the victory.
Jordan Glover and Garrett collected RBIs in the fourth to help knot the score at 5-5.
In the fifth,
Rob Koski drove in Jerminski with the game-winning run after the Harford third baseman doubled with one out. Jerminksi collected his second double of the game in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-5.
Mike Torres improved to 5-1 on the year, matching classmate
Kyle Hurley for the best record on the team. He went five innings, scattering seven hits and allowing five runs. The righthander struck out five and walked one.
Harford 6, Montgomery 1
Stallings allowed just two singles in three innings on a limited pitch count to secure his second win in as many starts. He struck out three and walked just one.
Freeberger collected an RBI the hard way, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, in the third before he belted one over the wall for a 5-0 lead in the fifth.
Garrett,
Sean Downing and
Jose Martinez joined Freeberger in the multiple-hit category. Garrett scored four runs on the day, giving him 50 runs in just 28 games this year. The national leader has 51 runs in 40 games played. Garrett continues to lead the nation in hitting with a .576 batting average.
The Fighting Owls host three-straight night games at the Harford Sports Complex, beginning on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Salem.
