LA PLATA, Md. - The Harford softball team dropped both contests at Southern Maryland on Friday to extend the season-worst losing streak to nine games. The Fighting Owls fell 10-9 in the opener ad 13-0 in game two.
The Hawks erupted for six runs in the first inning of the opener to put Harford in a hole, but the Fighting Owls would fight back. A pair of four run frames gave Harford the lead that they would take into the sixth.
Taylor Stiles clubbed a two-run double that was followed by an RBI-single by
Erin Morrissey in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 6-4.
Deanna Butler connected on a two-run double in the fifth to give the Fighting Owls an 8-6 lead. The teams traded runs in their next at bats, but a three-run bottom of the sixth was the difference maker.
Freshman pitcher
Brittany Stein was hit by a line drive in that frame and wasn't her normal self. Morrissey and
Becca Steele pitched the next contest, which Harford lost 13-0.
The Fighting Owls, who already set a school record with eight conference wins, will travel to Allegany on Monday to close out the season.
