BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford softball team salvaged a doubleheader split against Montgomery on Saturday with a 10-run comeback in the nightcap. The Fighting Owls trailed 11-1 in the fourth inning and won it on an
Abby Young walk-off single.
Montgomery 13, Harford 8
The Fighting Owls led 7-2 in the bottom of the fourth and were threatening to end it early with a quick offensive start to the bottom of the frame, but the Raptors escaped a jam and then put up 11-straight runs to turn the game around.
An eight-run fifth inning saw Montgomery score six unearned runs as the Fighting Owls couldn't stop the run.
Offensively,
Tajae Harris,
Madeleine Favazza and
Hanna Ayestas each had two hits. Harris had a pair of triples, Favazza scored three times and Ayestas stole three bases.
Brittany Stein took the loss, despite allowing just four earned runs.
Harford 13, Montgomery 12
Trailing 11-1 in the fourth inning, it was Harford's turn to score 11 consecutive runs to take a 12-11 lead into the final frame. Montgomery scored a two-out unearned run to tie it, but Young crushed one over the leftfielder's head for the game winner, scoring Sam Sullivan from third.
Taylor Stiles clubbed a three-run double in an eight-run fourth inning, and Ayestas and Young also had a double in the exciting inning. Stein came in from the bullpen to claim the win.
Harford travels to Brookdale on Sunday.
