Baseball Dominant In Shutout Win Over Essex

Jordan Glover
Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Fighting Owls baseball team got back into the win column Tuesday afternoon with a shutout victory over CCBC Essex, 15-0.

Harford (26-9, 12-3 MD JUCO) cruised to an easy win, putting up runs in five of seven innings and holding Essex (7-23, 1-13 MD JUCO) in check with outstanding pitching and defense.

Jordan Glover led the way on offense, picking up three hits and four RBIs. His two-run, first inning double opened the scoring and he followed that up with a pair of RBI singles in the second and third before being subbed out of the game.

Kyle Hurley took his record to a staff leading 6-1 after tossing four solid innings on a pitch count. The sophomore allowed just three hits and no base on balls while striking out five.

Nick Freeberger had a excellent day at the plate, going 3-for-4 and knocking in two runs. He moved to third base in the bottom of the sixth inning and started a nice around the horn 5-4-3 double play to end the frame.

Shane Garrett, Justin Gartner and Jose Martinez each picked up two hits and two runs. Martinez made a heads-up play in the field, backing up a wayward turn on a double play attempt, and gunning the runner out attempting to advance to second base to end the first inning.

Hurley gave way to sophomore lefty Jack Hine who made his debut appearance for the Fighting Owls after sitting out the majority of the season with an elbow injury. He was perfect with one strikeout in an inning of work.

Zach Stout finished the game for Harford, pitching two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Harford is back in action Wednesday as they kickoff a seven-game homestand with a visit from Delaware Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 at Harford Sports Complex.
