SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Facing a two-goal defecit at the half did not phase the Harford women's soccer team in the least. The Fighting Owls rallied behind a solid team effort to advance to the 2014 NJCAA National Tournament with a 3-2 victory at Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday.
The No. 19 Fighting Owls were carried by their sophomore trio throughout the regular season, but on this day, the freshman table-setter and the quiet team captain helped knot the score at 2-2 before Harford's All-American candidates clinched the program's fourth NJCAA Division I District Championship.
Freshman
Brooke Nigrin, who leads the conference and region with 14 assists, put one in the back of the net from 20 yards out in the 55th minute to open the Harford scoring.
Morgan Kaseman tallied her first goal of the season, the equalizer, just six minutes later.
With the Championship on the line and a trip to Florida hanging in the balance, the top two scorers in the conference and region teamed up for the game-winner.
Nicole Wojcik dished out her 10th assist of the year with a cross to
Karley Bush, who buried the shot for her 25th goal of the season and the most important of her collegiate career.
Ashley King made four saves in goal after allowing a pair of markers in the first 45. Harford now waits to find out its national seed in the 2014 NJCAA Division I National Tournament at Melbourne, Fla. from Nov. 17-22.
