BEL AIR, Md. - During the second game of a frigid doubleheader, the ice-cold Harford bats finally came alive in a 16-6 victory over Camden County, earning the Fighting Owls a split. Camden claimed the opener, 8-0.
Harford's 16 runs scored in game two was more than the 10 combined runs scored in the previous six contests, all losses. The Fighting Owls 15 hits were also a season-high.
Camden 8, Harford 0
The Fighting Owls managed just four hits in the loss. Though all four were extra base hits, Harford was unable to cross the plate in the shutout.
Craig Joseph collected a pair of doubles, while
Tyler Napierala chipped in with a double and
Joe Sheeran added a triple.
AJ Powell took the loss to fall to 0-2.
Harford 16, Camden 6
The Fighting Owls erupted in the third inning for eight runs on seven hits to take a commanding lead and scored in each remaining inning in their first win of the year.
Eight of nine starters had a hit and six of them had at least two base knocks.
CJ Young led all players with three hits. Five student-athletes had two RBIs.
Gabriel Castillo raced around the bases for the first home run in the new ballpark, an inside-the-park homer down the right field line.
Austin Griffie (1-1) earned the win, pitching 3.2 inning in relief.
