BEL AIR, Md. -- The Fighting Owls were challenged early by CCBC Dundalk, but pulled away in the second half for another win, 80-63. The victory guaranteed at least a No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a first-round bye.
Harford (19-5, 11-2 MD JUCO) led by a relatively slim margin of five after one half of play, and, with as late as 13 minutes to play in the second half, Dundalk (14-10, 5-6 MD JUCO) was within four points of the Fighting Owls. But a 23-6 run over a seven minute stretch pushed Harford's lead to 21 points with under six minutes to play, essentially ending any threat of a possible Lions upset.
The Fighting Owls displayed a balanced attack on the score sheet, with double-digit efforts from four of five starters.
Connor Hanley just missed the mark, scoring eight points on a solid night from the field.
Capree Garner led the way, as usual, coming just three assists shy of another triple-double. She scored 27 points and raked in 12 rebounds while also swiping four steals in the contest.
Ashley Smith scored 18 points while
Monique Cheek and
Dasha Moore each pitched in with a dozen points. As a team, Harford's full court pressure helped them rack up 21 steals in the game.
The Fighting Owls next action will come in the MD JUCO Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 13 at Prince George's in Largo, Md.
