BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford baseball team (2-7) won the first game of Friday's doubleheader against Jefferson (1-1) to claim a split. The Fighting Owls opened the day with a 9-1 win before dropping the nightcap, 10-5.
Harford 9, Jefferson 1
CJ Young collected three of the team's six hits in a 3-for-4 effort to help propel Harford to the win.
Austin Griffie earned his first win of his career scattering three hits in six innings of work.
Craig Joseph had three RBIs in the win, including two in the first inning. Harford jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Young doubled home a pair in the sixth to extend Harford's lead.
Jefferson 10, Harford 5
The Fighting Owls took a 3-0 lead into the third but couldn't hold the Cannoneers back. Kyle Simmons tied the score on a bases-clearing triple down the left field line, and Jefferson took control of the back-and-forth contest.
Harford tied the score at 5-5 on a
Tyler Napierala sac fly and
Brett Hash grounder. Jefferson then scored five unanswered in the sixth and seventh innings for the win.
Anthony Stricker took the loss for Harford.
The Fighting Owls host a doubleheader against Jefferson again on Saturday at 11 a.m.
