Baseball Dropped By No. 2 Mercer

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BEL AIR, Md. - The No. 2 Mercer County baseball team (32-4) earned a doubleheader sweep over Harford (21-23-1) on Wednesday at Harford Sports Complex. The Fighting Owls led in the fourth inning of both games but fell, 12-3 and 9-7.

Rob Koski and Justin Malehorn both had three hits in the double dip. Koski had a pair of hots and two RBIs in game two while Malehorn had two singles in the same contest.

Harford led 3-2 in the fourth before the floodgates opened in the top of the fifth. The Vikings scored six times on three hits, four walks and a hit-by-pitch. The inning started with back-to-back walks on eight pitches and the No. 2 team in the nation was in business. The Vikings added four in the seventh to round out the scoring.

In game two, the lead changed hands four times, and Mercer came out on top. Harford scored five times in the first to turn a two-run defecit into a 5-2 lead. Nine Fighting Owls came to the plate as Koski cleared the bases on a sinlge and a fielding error by the centerfielder. He scored on an RBI-groundout by Daulton Weeks. Malehorn finished the scoring in the opening frame with a sinlge through the right side.

After Mercer answered with four in the third, the Fighting Owls retook the lead, 7-6, on a Brandon Smith suicide squeeze and a wild pitch. The Vikings scratched three more runs across on key hits from the top of the order.

The Fighting Owls travel to CCBC Essex on Thursday in search of their 15th conference win, a total that would rank second in the conference.a
