SUMTER, S.C. - The Harford baseball team (1-3) dropped both Sunday games at USC Sumter (12-6) to conclude its season-opening swing in South Carolina.

USC Sumter 2, Harford 1
Freshman hurler Josh Silvestri (0-1) tossed a gem in his collegiate debut, but earned the tough-luck loss in the opener. The righthander carried a three-hit shutout into the final inning, but allowed four-straight one-out hits in the 2-1 loss. Silvestri went the distance, striking out four while issuing just one intentional walk in the final inning to set up a force play at home.

Jamal Clarke and Logan Mummert both collected two hits and Brett Hash scored Harford's run on a Tanner Forry single.

USC Sumter 9, Harford 3
The Fighting Owls fell behind early in the final contest in an eventual 9-3 loss. John Hetterman (0-1) took the defeat.

The Fighting Owls host CCBC Dundalk on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
