BEL AIR, Md. - An afternoon of sloppy baseball turned into an amazing finish as sophomore stud
Brett Hash delivered a walkoff winner off the centerfield wall to give the Harford baseball team an 11-10 victory over Cecil in the MD JUCO opener. The victory extended the Fighting Owls' win streak to eight games in five days.
Hash smacked a 1-0 pitch over the head of the centerfielder with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, spilling Fighting Owls out of the home dugout.
Joe Sheeran started the frame off with his third hit of the day and scored the winning run for Harford (9-3, 1-0 MD JUCO).
Centerfielder
Jamal Clarke sent a big three-run home run over the rightfield fence, breaking a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning. The rocket shot looked like it would be enough for the win, but the Seahawks (2-7, 0-0 MD JUCO) plated one run in the eighth and scratched across two more in the ninth to knot the score at 10-10 against the Fighting Owl bullpen.
The game featured 11 errors, six by Harford and five by Cecil, who had not played since Feb. 22. Both teams scored three unearned runs early as dropped fly balls and errant throws were common in the opening frames. The Fighting Owls also had a pair of runners thrown out at the plate on bang-bang plays.
Harford out hit the Seahawks, 12-11, including three doubles, three triples and Clarke's homer. Sheeran went 3-for-5 and scored twice and Hash and
Brandon Smith both chipped in with two hits. Hash added two walks and a triple while Smith had a double and a pair of stolen bases. The Fighting Owls nabbed six bases on the afternoon.
Hash has been red hot since the Fighting Owls returned home. He owns an 11-game hitting streak where he is hitting .519 (14-for-27) with 19 RBIs, 17 runs, 10 walks, three doubles, four triples and three home runs. He owns a .634 on-base percentage and a 1.172 slugging percentage through 12 games.
