Box Score 2 BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford baseball team (10-4) won the opener, 14-3, of Friday's doubleheader but saw its nine-game win streak halted with an 11-6 loss to Mercyhurst North East (4-7) in the nightcap.
Harford 14, MNE 3Brett Hash went 3-for-3 with his fourth home run of the season to lead another offensive onslaught in the opener. The Fighting Owls smacked 14 hits and totaled double digit runs for the seventh time in nine gamesÂ
in the 10-run rule shortened contest.
Hash knocked in six runs for the second time this week and scored four more. After falling behind 2-0, Hash and John Mastrangelo both clubbed three-run homers in the first inning, and the rout was on.
Brandon Smith went 4-for-4 with a double and Jamal Clarke and Jack Hamner both connected on two hits in the win.
Anthony Atticks (2-1) went the distance and didn't need quite the amount of run support that he received. He allowed just three runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Two of the four hits that the righthander allowed were home runs off the bat of Drew Delsignore, who finished with three home runs on the day.MNE 11, Harford 6The early-season win streak ended in the nightcap when the offense couldn't keep up for the first time at home this season. The Saints scored in the first five innings and were able to minimize the Fighting Owls offensive output early. Mercyhurst NE totaled 14 hits as eight of the nine batters had at least one hit and five had multiple knocks.Â
Hamner continued to hit for the Fighting Owls, going 2-for-2 and raising his average to .786 (11-for-14) on the season.
Logan Mummert went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the fifth.
Michael Hanafin and
TJ Pagan both tossed scoreless inning of relief in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.
The Fighting Owls continue their marathon homestand with an MD JUCO doubleheader against Southern Maryland at 11 a.m.
