Hamner, Baseball Hammer Dundalk, 14-4

BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford baseball team turned a close game into another comfortable, 10-run rule shortened win, topping CCBC Dundalk, 14-4, Thursday afternoon. Jack Hamner put the exlamation point on the decisive 8-run fifth inning with a grand slam, Harford's third of the season.

Harford (16-4, 5-0 MD JUCO), again, displayed their explosiveness at the plate as they continue to thump their way to double-digit win margins, day in and day out. Dundalk (3-9, 1-1 MD JUCO) were worthy opponents, fighting back from a four run deficit but the Fighting Owls were too much, taking advantage of some key mishaps by the visiting Lions.

In the fifth inning, five of Harford's eight runs were unearned as Dundalk committed three critical errors. Harford loaded the bases twice in the inning and cashed in both times. Brandon Smith had the first opportunity with the sacks full and drove a single to center. The hit was misplayed by Dundalk centerfielder Tyler Mister, allowing it to roll all the way to the wall and allowing Brett Hash to score all the way from first. Smith motored all the way to third on the play and scored on a Tyler Mummert single. The Fighting Owls loaded the bases again thanks to an error and a failure to record an out on a fielder's choice. Hamner wasted little time, making Dundalk pay with his first homer of the season, a no-doubter over the monster in left for the grand slam. He went four-for-four at the dish with a walk and a run scored.

The Harford rally came on the heels of Dundalk staging one of their own, making the bottom of the fifth all the more demoralizing for the Lions. They plated two runs in the third and two in the fourth, responding nicely to a four spot put up by Harford in the second inning.

John Hetterman (1-1) got his first win of the season, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks over five innings pitched. He did a nice job to either minimize or avoid damage completely in some tough situations.

Brett Hash hit another home run (7), a solo blast in the sixth inning. The clean-up hitter went two-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI, just hours before it was announced that he was named an NJCAA Player of the Week (Mar. 9-15).

CJ Young won an eight-pitch battle with Dundalk hurler Zyle Babcock in the second inning, smacking a three-run double to left field to put Harford up early in the ball game. He went two-for-four with a run scored.

Connor Reeves and Dominic DiSabatino came on to pitch in the sixth and seventh innings respectively, holding the Lions scoreless to end the game. Reeves struck out one and allowed a hit while DiSabatino was perfect with a strike out.

Harford finishes off an 18-game home stand on Saturday, hosting Northampton for a pair. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
