Sweep Gives Softball 14th-Straight Win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
LA PLATA, Md. - The Harford softball team (14-1, 6-0 MD JUCO) earned back-to-back shutout victories over Southern Maryland (2-8, 0-2 MD JUCO) on Monday to record its school-record 14th-straight win. The Fighting Owls won the opener, 5-0, and took game two, 9-0.

Freshmen pitchers Desi Joines (8-1) and Katie Shultz (5-0) combined to strike out 18 batters while scattering three hits without allowing a run in 12 innings. Joines went seven innings, striking out 12 with two hits allowed. She has two no-hitters, one one-hitter and three two-hitters on the season. Shultz allowed just one hit for the second time this season. She struck out six batters in five innings of work.

The victories give head coach Erin Clary 14 wins on the season, the fourth-most in school history with over a month to play. The 2002 team finished with a program-best 20 wins and the 2003 team totaled 18 victories. In her first year as head coach, Clary led the Fighting Owls to 15 wins, the third-most wins in school history. With at least 26 games remaining on the regular season schedule, Clary has her squad ready to take on those records.

Harford travels to CCBC Dundalk on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
