BEL AIR, Md. - The most successful women's basketball season in Harford school history came to an end on Thursday in the 2015 NJCAA Division I District C Championship Game. The Fighting Owls fell to ASA, 75-66.
Jasmin Johnson led Harford with 23 points, but the length of the Avengers caused problems for the Fighting Owls all night. ASA outrebounded the Fighting Owls, 50-22.
Despite the size difference, and ASA leading the majority of the second half, Harford made a pair of big charges, tying the score both times, but never taking the lead. Harford tied the score at 39-39, with an 8-1 run to start the second half, and after falling behind by eight just moments later, rallied to tie the score at 51-51.
A pair of turnovers and fast-break lay-ups for ASA pout them back on top for good and it was down hill from there.
Ashley Smith netted 13 points in a losing effort. She finished her amazing Harford career with 1,107 career points, third in school history behind former teammate
Capree Garner (1,497) and Tiffany Taylor (1,139).
Ashley Hightower collected four fouls in the first four minutes of the second half and had to sit, but finished strong down the stretch to score 12 points.
Mia Fitts finished the first half on a flurry and added 11 markers for the Fighting Owls.
The season ends, but goes down as the most successful in school history. The team won its first MD JUCO Tournament Championship, collected its third-straight Region XX Championship and won a school record 26 games.
