Box Score 2 WYE MILLS, Md. - The Harford softball team (26-7, 15-1 MD JUCO) inched closer to its first MD JUCO Title with a sweep of defending champion Chesapeake (18-10, 9-3 MD JUCO) on the road on Saturday. The Fighting Owls won the opener, 2-1, and game two, 6-3.
Desi Joines (16-3) was the winning pitcher in both contests and the Fighting Owl offense pounded out four home runs in the sweep.Â
Harford 2, Chesapeake 1
A pair of long balls were key in the game one pitchers' duel, and the Harford home run was a two-run shot, providing the difference.
Mackenzie Fitzgerald's longball to left field with
Fabiana Della-Monica was the game-winner in the fourth inning.
Joines allowed a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, and faced a one-out, bases-load jam in the sixth, but used her No. 1 weapon, the strikeout, to earn the win. She struck out nine batters and issued just one walk in the opener.
Harford 6, Chesapeake 3
Lindsey Fenner homered twice, but

massive three-run blast off the scoreboard in right field broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth for the win. Joines struck out six to give her an MD JUCO-best and Harford school-record 201 whiffs on the season.
Fenner hit a two-run homer in the second inning for a 2-0 lead and a solo shot to lead off the fifth for a 3-2 lead.
Harford travels to Mercer County on Sunday.
