Della-Monica, Joines Pace SB Split

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The Harford softball team picked up its 27th win of the season with a Sunday split at No. 20 Mercer County. The Fighting Owls dropped the opener, 7-5, but stormed back for a 13-12 victory in the nightcap.

Fabiana Della-Monica belted a seventh-inning two run home run to flip a 12-11 deficit to a 13-12 lead. Desi Joines came in for her second save of the year with a perfect bottom of the frame.

Joines, Bethanie Cook and Mackenzie Fitzgerald each totaled four hits in the game two win as Harford banged out 22 hits. Tori Brooks went 3-for-4 and Della-Monica and Julia Sanders both had two hits.

Katie Shultz got the win, her 10th of the season, despite allowing 12 runs. The offense exploded to keep the team in the game, and only six of the 12 runs were earned.

In game one, a sloppy affair cost the Fighting Owls and ace Desi Joines. The freshman fell to 16-4 on the year, allowing seven runs, three earned while striking out seven.

On the day, Joines had seven hits and Cook added six, including a pair of triples.

Harford hosts Hagerstown with a chance to win its first MD JUCO Championship on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
