Baseball Blasts Cecil, 20-4

Box Score
NORTH EAST, Md. - The No. 18 Harford baseball team (28-5, 15-0 MD JUCO) remained undefeated in conference play with a 20-4 victory over second-place Cecil (19-14, 11-4 MD JUCO) on the road on Thursday.

Freshman outfielder Ben Bomberger hit for the cycle, went 5-for-5 and hit two home runs, including a grand slam in the win. The No. 9 hitter started his day with a single in the third inning and tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run home run in the fifth. That blast seemed to open the flood gates for the Fighting Owl offense, as Harford scored 19 unanswered runs to turn a close contest into a laugher.

Bomberger tacked on an RBI double in the six-run sixth and a two-run triple in the seventh. He capped his day off after already hitting for the cycle with an eighth inning grand slam for a total of nine RBIs in the career day.

The Fighting Owls totaled four home runs on the day. Brett Hash got back on the round-tripper circuit with his ninth home run and CJ Young clubbed his second of the season. Harford's 21 hits marked a season-high and came against the top two pitchers on the Seahawk roster, two of the toughest pitchers in the MD JUCO this season.

John Hetterman improved to 3-1 on the season, pitching 3.2 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit while striking out two. Anthony Atticks pitched well in the start, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits while striking out seven.

The Harford offense continues to lead the nation in numerous offensive categories. The Fighting Owls batting average (.412), on-base percentage (.525), and slugging percentage (.741) are all tops in the NJCAA by a large margin. With their 20-run outburst, the Fighting Owls took over the NJCAA lead with 409 runs scored this season. Harford's 51 home runs are a school record and rank fifth in the nation.

The Fighting Owls travel to Hagerstown for a Region XX doubleheader on Saturday.
