Box Score KEYSER, W.Va. - The No. 2 Harford baseball team (41-14) lost the opening game of the 2015 Region XX Championships to No. 3 Hagerstown (33-18) on Friday, 9-3. The Hawks scored four runs in the first and never looked back.
Hagerstown's Alex Cuas (6-3) again kept the Harford bats at bay, pitching a complete game for the win. Harford scored its first run in the sixth inning, but was already trailing 7-0 at the time. Cuas scattered 10 hit and struck out 10. He shut Harford out earlier this season.
Brett Hash laced a pair of doubles in the loss, scoring on one and bringing home a run on the other.
James English (6-2) took the loss on the hill, pitching just the opening inning, allowing four runs, two earned.
Dalton Reed pitched well in relief, as did
John Hetterman and
Anthony Vattuone.
The Fighting Owls will have to fight their way out of the losers' bracket, beginning with a 4 p.m. game on Friday. Live Audio is available through SFM Sports, Channel Two.
