KEYSER, W.Va. - The Harford baseball team (43-14) advanced to Championship Sunday with a 9-1 victory over Hagerstown on Saturday. Freshman Josh Silvestri went the distance, striking out seven and allowing just one unearned run.

The Fighting Owls offense scored in six of the eight innings with John Mastrangelo opening the flood gates with a 2-run double over the rightfielder's head in the second inning. Tanner Forry singled him home for a 3-0 cushion and Harford cruised to the victory.

Brett Hash and Jamal Clarke continued their torrid start to the Region XX Tournament. Hash went 3-for-4 with another double, while Clarke went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring twice. Hash is 9-for-12 so far in the postseason with five doubles and Clarke has six hits, four extra-base hits and five RBIs.

Silvestri found the groove that he was in for the first month of the season. He earned his sixth win of the season, allowing just one unearned run in the third inning. He had three 1-2-3 innings and struck out his last two batters of the afternoon with the bases loaded in the eighth.

Harford advances to its fourth-straight Region XX Championship Sunday. Last year, the Fighting Owls battled out of the loser's bracket by defeating Chesapeake and Hagerstown to face Potomac State. Sunday, Harford will need to win the opener at 11 a.m. to force the 'if' game against the host Catamounts, just like they did last Mother's Day, for the Fighting Owls to defend their Region XX title.
