BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford Women's soccer team won their fourth in a row Tuesday after building a three-goal lead early and hanging on to beat Anne Arundel, 3-2.
Liz Fitch scored a goal and assisted the game winner to lead the Fighting Owls to their first win in conference play.
Harford (4-1, 1-0 MD JUCO) scored twice in the first half hour and again just three minutes into the second half. Despite building a 3-0 lead, the Fighting Owls had to stave off a furious comeback for the second game in a row. Anne Arundel (3-5, 1-2 MD JUCO) pulled within a goal after hitting the back of the net twice in an 11-minute span. Fighting Owl keeper
Jazmine Thacker made some big saves to preserve the lead down the stretch including a stop on the goal line.
For
Angela Kuhn, the beat continues to go on as she scored yet another spectacular goal, her conference leading eighth of the season, to open the scoring. After intercepting the ball deep in her own half, center back
Carly Lambert distributed the ball to Kuhn at the halfway line. Kuhn turned and evaded an oncoming defender in one motion, dribbled past another and stroked a powerful shot with her left foot that curled past the Anne Arundel keeper and into the bottom right corner.
Fitch scored the Fighting Owls second goal of the game.
Emily Naff had her shot from the right of the 18-yard box blocked. The rebound landed at the feet of Fitch who turned, took a touch and fired past the keeper with her right foot into the side-netting from just outside of the area.
Fitch went from scorer to creator to help Harford land what looked to be a knockout blow in the opening minutes of the second half. She received a pass from
Natalie Decker near the semi-circle at the top of the box with her back to goal, shielding the center back. She turned and drew a second defender, leaving plenty of space for
Emily Naff to cut in from the right wing for a one-on-one with the keeper. Fitch weighted a perfect ball to Naff who finished clinically in the bottom left corner to net her third of the season.
The game looked to be a formality for Harford with a three-goal lead but Anne Arundel made things tight with a pair of goals in the 58
th and 69
th minutes of the game. Both goals came from the right foot of Yasemin Yazici.
The Riverhawks nearly tied things up on a few occasions. They came closest on a scramble in the box that resulted in a slow rolling ball getting behind Thacker in the six-yard box. Thacker made a desperation dive to stop the ball on the line and keep Harford on top.
The Fighting Owls begin a short run of road games Friday afternoon as they travel to Rockville to face Montgomery at 4 p.m.
