HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mackenzie Wills once again proved dangerous in space as she scored the first two goals of the game; both coming from her excellent speed at the forward position. Her second goal was thanks to a long ball over the top of the defense by Alexandria Adams that Wills just ran past everyone to retrieve the ball and score.
  • Mercer answered back early in the second half as they scored two goals within two minutes of each other to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Adams once again played distributor, this time her cross found Chase Otenasek on the back post, who put away her 5th goal of the season to regain the lead for Harford.
  • With the Fighting Owls just three minutes away from a victory, Vikings forward Janine Dennis fell in the box and was awarded a penalty kick; which she took herself and scored to tie the game at 3-3.
  • In the 109th minute of play and less than two minutes away from dealing with a disappointing tie, Abbie Springer hit a corner kick into the box that was pinballed around until Jenna Staton finally got her foot on it and squirreled the ball just over the goal line for the game-winner.

GAME NOTES
  • Staton and Wills are now tied for the team lead with 13 goals on the season; that mark also means the two are tied for 4th in the conference.
  • Shianne Georgantakis almost scored another incredible long-range free kick as the 25 yard shot from a tough angle put a dent into the post. Georgantakis, Adams, and Wills all still remain the top three shot-takers in the conference.
  • Adams picked up her third yellow card of the season as she was in a battle for possession in the middle of the field throughout the day. Adams was also able to draw a foul from a Viking player in overtime that resulted in a yellow card.
  • While Harford was forced to settle for 2nd place in the conference this season, they were able to earn first place in Region 20 Division I and have already earned themselves a place in the semi-finals. That game will take place on October 27th at Dundalk.
