HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls absolutely dominated the first half, using the speed of their team to their advantage.
  • Shianne Georgantakis was an absolute monster for much of the game, controlling the middle of the field and peppering the Sea Devils goal with 11 shots; seven of which were on goal.
  • The breakthrough occurred late in the first half as Mackenzie Wills was set free with a defender trailing and just the goalkeeper standing between her and the goal. Wills expertly rounded the keeper who slide in trying to win the ball and instead took out her teammate. Wills was left unchallenged as she tapped the ball into an empty net for a Fighting Owls 1-0 lead at halftime.
  • A bit of bad luck changed the entire outlook of the game as Cape Fear forward Alyssa Coustenis took a shot towards the near post that goalkeeper Kristen Shock was unable to keep out of the goal.
  • After that, the Sea Devils scored again just four minutes later on a fast break and a third goal was scored in the 81st minute to seal the game for Cape Fear.
GAME NOTES
  • Harford was called for 9 fouls in the game as well as being given a yellow card compared to Cape Fear being called for just 2 fouls.
  • The Fighting Owls finish the season with a 13-3 as well as their third straight Region 20 championship and just one win away from a ticket to the national tournament.
  • Wills scored her 16th goal of the season, leading the team in 2016 with Jenna Staton in 2nd at 13 goals.
