BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford softball team earned a home split against Niagara County on Monday. The Fighting Owls won the opener, 13-0, but saw their three-game win streak snapped in the nightcap, 11-5.
Harford 13, Niagara 0Amanda Hildebrandt tossed her second shutout in three games with a dazzling performance against the Thunderwolves. The freshman scatted a pair of hits and struck out four without walking a batter in the win.
The bats provided plenty of support, scoring five runs in the first two innings and ending the game early with a 13-run outburst for the second-straight contest.
Lindsey Fenner raced around the bases for a three-run inside-the-park home run in the first inning.
Eight of nine batter collected a hit in the win and
Julia Sanders and
Emily Wikane both tallied two hits. Sanders scored three times and knocked in a pair and Wikane brought home three and touched home plate twice.
Niagara 11, Harford 5The Thunderwolves jumped on Fenner for five runs in the first inning and the Fighting Owls could not rebound from the early defecit.
Hildebrandt came in relief as Harford trailed 6-0 and after a few singles, truly settled in and found her groove. She retired 11 batters in a row at one point, but the bats could not get Harford the lead.
Wikane went 4-for-4 in the nightcap with thre RBIs and Hildebrandt earned two hits.
The Fighting Owls travel to Del Tech on Tuesday.
