Box Score WYE MILLS, Md. – The Harford baseball team won its opening game of the NJCAA Region XX Championships over Hagerstown, 15-6 Friday.
No. 1 Harford (47-9) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a pair of two-run homers by
Joe Burton and
Luke Johnson.
Dominic DiSabatino led the game off with a single, moved to second on an error and scored two batters later on a double by
Daulton Weeks. Burton followed with a mammoth blast to left center to put Harford up 3-0. It was his 15
th home run of the season.
Jack Hamner reached on an error and Johnson smashed a 3-2 changeup down the left field line for a two-run bomb to give Harford a 5-0 lead. It was his fifth home run of the season.
After seeing the lead cut to one in the second inning, Harford exploded for six runs in the fourth. In the inning, the Fighting Owls had a pair of bunt singles and hit three consecutive doubles. Weeks hit his second double of the game over the head of the right fielder to plate a run. Burton followed with a double down the right field line to score two giving him four runs batted in on the day. Hamner followed with a double down the left field line to plate a run.
Ben Bomberger finished the rally with a single on a two-strike pitch to give Harford an 11-4 lead.
The Fighting Owls scored four more runs in the sixth inning.
Nick Delp hit a sacrifice fly and
Ty Williams followed with a three-run shot to right field. It was his fourth home run of the season.
Aaron Gress (3-0) made the start for Harford and was solid. He gave up four runs on six hits and four walks.
Harford will take on No. 3 Potomac State Saturday at 10 a.m. The Fighting Owls swept the regular season matchups with the Catamounts, beating them 5-1 and 6-3 on April 24
th.
