Baseball Claims Region XX Championship

Box Score WYE MILLS, Md. – The No. 1 Harford baseball team beat No. 3 Potomac State, 11-2 to capture the NJCAA Region XX Championship Sunday.

Harford (49-9) used a 15-hit assault to race past Potomac State (30-22), leading the game from start to finish. Daulton Weeks had a massive day at the plate, slugging a pair of two-run home runs.

Weeks crushed a 2-1 fastball to left field to put Harford on the board, 2-0 in the first inning. He hit a 1-2 offspeed pitch over the fence just left of center to put Harford up 7-0 in the fifth inning. The two-homer day pushed his team single-season record total to 18 on the season. He also passed Dominic DiSabatino for the school record with 23 home runs in his career.

Josh Silvestri (10-0) was brilliant on the mound for the Fighting Owls. He allowed two runs over 7+ innings, giving up eight hits and no walks while striking out eight.

Nine of Harford's 15 hits came from the 3-4-5 spots in the order. The aforementioned Weeks, Joe Burton and Jack Hamner each had three hits in the game. Burton had three doubles, drove in a run and drew walk. All three of Hamner's hits were RBI singles.

Eight of the ten Harford hitters to register an at-bat had at least one hit. DiSabatino went 2-for-5 with a walk, two runs scored and a run driven in. Chase DeMars went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. JP Vail went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run driven in and Ty Williams went 1-for-2, drew two walks and scored a run.

TJ Pagan came on to close the game in a non-save situation. He worked around a bit of nerves, giving up a run on two hits and two walks over two innings.

Harford, led by head coach Tom Eller, has now won the Region XX Championship three times over the last five years. They won it in 2012 in Chesapeake and won it in 2014 as the host.

Harford will host the NJCAA Eastern District Championships beginning Friday. The four-team, double elimination tournament will run through Sunday with the winner advancing to the 2016 NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. Teams and seeds to be announced.
