Weeks Puts Baseball On Brink Of CWS

Box Score
BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford baseball team is one win away from the NJCAA College World Series after Saturday's 13-8 victory over Monroe in the 2016 NJCAA Eastern District Tournament. Sophomore Daulton Weeks belted two home runs in a 3-for-5, four-RBI effort to carry the offense.

The sophomore third baseman got things started with a solo blast in the first and connected on a two-run homer to retake the lead for good in the fifth inning. Weeks, who was named NJCAA Player of the Week on Thursday, is 15-for-25 in his last seven contests with 17 RBIs. He now owns the career record for both home runs and RBIs. Weeks' 20 home runs and 80 RBIs are also single season records.

Monroe took the lead on two separate occasions early before Weeks' second blast. The Mustangs scratched across a run in the second and third to take a 2-1 lead. Fighting Owl catcher Luke Johnson connected on a two-run home run in the fourth to gave Harford a brief 3-2 lead but Alex de la Cruz used a two-run shot of his own to give Monroe a 4-3 lead.

The Fighting Owls played add-on in the sixth and seventh, plating seven total runs to put the game out of reach. Weeks, Dominic DiSabatino and Jack Hamner singled home runs in that spurt and Ty Williams added an RBI groundout. In the seventh, JP Vail cleared the bases with a three-run double, stole third and scored on a balk.

Josh Silvestri improved to 11-0 on the season, scattering 12 hits while allowing five earned runs. TJ Pagan returned one day after his marathon outing to pitch 1.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Aaron Gress allowed a run in the ninth.

The Fighting Owls advance to Championship Sunday at 11 a.m. Harford (51-9) has two chances to win one game to advance to the National Tournament. Harford's opponent will be determined in other Saturday contests.
