Baseball Ties Win Record With 45th

BEL AIR, Md. - The No. 15 Harford baseball team tied the program wins record with its 45th victory of the season on Saturday. The Fighting Owls (45-9) defeated CCBC Catonsville at home, 14-7.

After falling behind 1-0 after just one batter, the Fighting Owls responded with four crooked numbers in the next five innings to take an 11-1 lead in the milestone win. Harford captured the lead with three in the bottom of the first and never looked back, totaling 14 runs on 13 hits without committing an error. The Fighting Owls have tallied double-digit runs 26 times this season and at least 10 hits 28 times.

A pair of home runs, one mammoth blast by Joe Burton and the first of the season for Colby Dean, gave Harford its 102nd and 103rd longballs of the season, a total that ranks fourth in the nation. Burton's bomb was a three-run no-doubter in the third inning, his 14th of the season.

Daulton Weeks went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs in the win. The sophomore third baseman tied the score with a double in the first, extended the lead with a double in the fourth and collected his Harford record 109th RBI with a single in the fifth.

Chase DeMars scored four times and was one of two others with a pair of hits, along with Dean and Toby Sponseller. Josh Silvestri improved to 9-0 with the victory while throwing on a pitch count. He scattered six hits in three innings, striking out five and allowing just a leadoff home run.

The Fighting Owls close out the regular season on Tuesday with a home double dip against Maryland Club and Delaware Club.
