ARNOLD, Md- The Harford men's soccer team fell a goal short of their comeback bid as they lost to Anne Arundel 3-2. The loss drops the Fighting Owls to 2-4 on the season with a 1-3 conference record.
Harford came out the stronger side in the first half as they doubled the Riverhawks in shots for the opening 45 minutes. It took only three minutes into the game for
Jerry Washington to announce his presence in the game with a shot that nailed the goal post. Washington would have another shot saved in the 11th minute while hitting the post for a second time in the 26th.
However, it was the Riverhawks who got on the board first when a foul by
Brandon Klepetka in the box drew a yellow card and a penalty kick for Anne Arundel, which was netted by Garrett McLendon.
Klepetka was able to make amends quickly as he scored his first of the season unassisted to tie the game at 1-1. Anne Arundel took the lead back in the 63rd minute as they started to get more control of the game. The Riverhawks doubled their advantage in the 71st minute to give them a 3-1 lead with less than 20 minutes to play.
Despite the physicality of the game growing in a second half that saw a combined 20 fouls, Harford continued to get chances towards the Riverhawks goal as
Frank Assaro had a point blank header saved in the 80th minute. Two minutes later Assaro was able to get it past the goalkeeper as he found the net thanks to a
Daniel Milad pass to set him up. Unfortunately this was the last shot the FIghting Owls would have in the game as they were unable to find the equalizer.
Harford's next game will see the travel to Cumberland to take on Allegany in a 4 PM match.
