BEL AIR, Md- The Harford women's soccer team played one of their best performances of the season as they dominated Rowan College at Burlington County 4-0. The victory improves the Fighting Owls overall record to 4-1 on the season and gives them their third consecutive win.
The early run of play seemed to be a microcosm of the entire game as the Fighting Owls seemed to live in the Barons half of the field for most of the first half. A foul by the Barons gave Harford a free kick just outside of the 18 yard box, but the cross was hit a bit too hard and the home team was unable to get a touch on the ball. The pressure continued shortly thereafter when
Emily Raulie picked the ball up in the middle of the box and made a great turn and shot that was saved by the Rowan goalkeeper.
The breakthrough came in just the 7th minute of the game when a high, curling corner kick by
Emily Doleschal fell into the box and
Jenna Staton was able to get her foot on it and poke it home.Â
Alexandria Adams nutmegged her opponent a couple minutes later to get some open space to shoot, but her low shot at the near corner was saved.
In the 13th minute, it was a nice build up play in the middle that allowed
Briana Stabile who put in a well-weighted through ball to
Mackenzie Wills and her shot for the back post found the side netting to double the Fighting Owls lead.
Harford refused to let up as Stabile once again showed her play making abilities, this time getting an assist on a
Chase Otenasek goal to give the Fighting Owls a 3-0 lead at halftime.
The second half was a much more subdued stanza with few good scoring opportunities for either side. However, there was one moment of soccer beauty when Stabile and Adams made a nice 1-2 play in the middle of the field that opened space for Adams, who launched a 25 foot rocket shot into the top corner of the net to make it a 4-0 lead.
The Fighting Owls will next take on conference rivals CCBC Essex in the Harford Stadium on Friday September 23rd at 5 PM.
